RT. REV. WISDOM BUDU IHUNWO

Lord Bishop, Diocese of Niger Delta North

Vicar
Preacher: Rev. Canon Gideon Nenrot Genka (Vicar)

First Service Sermon

Text: 1 Tim.4:1-12, 3:15

Opening charge: Whenever you have an opportunity to worship and serve God, do it wholeheartedly.

1Tim.1-5 summarily urges is to be guided from deceptive spirits. Let the Holy Spirit give you discerning spirit.

Vs 6-10 emphasizes on sound doctrines. Stay grounded in the truth of the Gospel.
Paul explains that we have a hope, and our hope is not of this world

  • Avoid spiritual emptiness such as gathering of wealth, status and pleasure Remember that we are nothing but dust.
  • Where there is no commitment to sound doctrine, there will be spiritual immaturity. Self reflection: Are you here to grow your spiritual journey with God or just to receive from Him?
  • Those that are not grounded in scriptures will lose hope easily and become discouraged in life’s trials.

What must we do to grow spiritually

  1. Study the word: Set aside time each day to show yourself approved, a workman that needs not be ashamed but rightly dividing the word. (2Tim.2:15)
  2. Model sound doctrine in your little corner, at work and in school. Shine forth the light of God in your speech (seasoned with honesty and love). In conduct; don’t only talk it, work it. Say no to hypocrisy!!! In love; work for a cause not for applause.
  3. Walk in faith: Trust God’s promises and confess only positivity.

Conclusion: Dearly beloved, In our purity walk with God, let faithfulness be our watchword, be persistent in the doctrine of Christ, be steadfast in imitating His examples and depend on His grace.

Second Service Sermon

Text: 1Tim.3:15

Opening charge: Be conscious of your behavior as a child of God.

The Church is an organized body of religious believers. It is the body of Christ with many members.

1Corinth.12:27 Apostle Paul called us “pillar”. We are that component body of Christ, God’s own people.

As a pillar holding the church, we should be mindful of what we do and what we say.
Effective functions of a pillar.

As a pillar holding the church, we should be mindful of what we do and what we say.
Effective functions of a pillar.

i) Faithfulness: When we are faithful unto the Lord as a pillar, the church will stand firm.

ii) Perfect character: Being perfect in character means us carrying each others burden. When we are perfect in our character there will be unity.

iii) Dedication: When we are dedicated to our duties, there will be growth.

iv) Determination: We should be determined to stay in perfect peace and unity.

1Tim.4:1 emphasizes that if we are not careful to remain as a pillar of the church, we are at risk of sliding into total rejection of Christianity as a way of life and our values as the body of Christ.

What does God require from us
Heb.12:2 Christ endured the cross for the purpose of God’s will.

  • As a pillar, make yourself available for God’s use.
  • Micah 6:8 “He has shown you, o man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

Conclusion: Sometimes God might use you to strengthen the hands of others, be that available pillar. May God bless you as you do so in Jesus name, amen!!!
